We meet for casual chess every Tuesday evening (7-10 PM) at the Borders Bookstore in Crystal Lake. (Located in the Crystal Point Mall, at the Northeast corner of the intersection between Route 14 and Main Street). This is our only scheduled meeting at present, and we're pretty informal. Sometimes we have a lecture, either a game analysis or a talk on strategy or tactics. Sometimes a puzzle is displayed. But mostly we come to play. You can play with or without a clock at any time control, and we have players ranging from relative beginners to very competitive. We usually have spare equipment available, but bring your set if you have one. Following is a map for the Crystal Lake meeting. Tournaments are held on the third Saturday of each month. Our usual playing site is the Holiday Inn hotel in Elgin (847-488-9000), just north of I-90 and on the East side of Rt. 31. Since these tournaments are rated, USCF membership is required. We will help you sign up with the USCF if this is your first tournament or if your membership has expired. Join or renew with us and you get a break with our affiliate discount (if the USCF permits - currently the best deal is to sign up yourself online).
