The August 2004 Tournament was our Annual Championship, and was our best attended tournament to date with 72 players. The results of this tournament were as follows: The overall McHenry Area Champion for 2004 is Bob Cairone, who repeats his championship performance from last year. Taking Second Place overall is Nathan McCoy. Third Place went to Martin Bonomi. Congratulations to all our top winners. Our Junior Champion for 2004 is Tristan Lang, and our Second Place Junior is Alicia Narducci. The 2004 Algonquin Champion is Bill Barker. The Cary Champion is Jeremy Crouse. The Crystal Lake Champion is Bob Cunningham. The Lake in the Hills Champion award went to Andrew Wang. The city of McHenry Champion is Carl Bolm, and the Woodstock Champion is Bryce Kille. Finally, our Traveler Champion title went to Clive Hutchby. In the Scholastics category, Sean Johnston won the Sixth through Eighth Grade Champion trophy. Third through Fifth Grade Champion went to Marc Cossey. Kindergarten through Second Grade Champion is Yaodi Hu, Jr. Congratulations to all of our tournament winners! Special thanks to Andrew Wang of McHenry Area Chess for being our very busy tournament director during this event, and to Peter Pizzerri of the Cary Kings for serving as the assistant tournament director. Peter was so well prepared that he loaned up a spare pack of score sheets from his car when we ran out. Due to their efforts, the tournament ran smoothly and without and significant problems. This was a hard fought tournament. For one thing, there were a surprisingly few number of draws. Only three games out of the hundred and thirty nine games played ended without a decisive result. Also, twelve games were major upsets, with a ratings difference of over four hundred points. The biggest upset of the tournament was the round one loss by top seeded Bill Barker to Yaodi Hu, Sr., at a difference of 582 points. One player, Everado Gamino, scored three upset wins in a row! Because of the very large number of games from this tournament, this month's organization will be different from our normal format. Below are a series of links giving each player's name, their rating, and title won if any (Well, they'll be links soon as the games are entered). Also noted is the upset win of the tournament, at a ratings difference of 537 points! Clicking on those links will display the four games played by that person. This will show games played both as white and black. Some players may show fewer than four games if there was a bye or withdrawal, or if score sheets weren't turned in or were indecipherable. Some games are annotated, but with the number of games to do, it may take some time before they're all done. If you are particularly interested in seeing a certain game annotated, drop us a note and we'll put it high on our list of games to do. And if f you wish to contribute annotations for any of these games, it would be very appreciated! Enjoy the games!

We have a lot of pictures from this event. See if you can find yourself or someone you know. These are thumbnail versions displayed. Just click on any picture to see a larger version. Photos from the tournament in progress Our Winners!
