This page is the gateway to the games that were played in our tournaments held in 2004. This was our first year of hosting tournaments, in order to fill in the void created when Jeff Buchman of the Center Street Chess Club moved out of state. McHenry Area Chess was formed, and expanded it's role in the community and the services it planned to provide (such as this web site). But tournaments have always been one of the most important aspects of our organization, and this year demonstrates our growth. Our first tournament In February of 2004 was a small Swiss and contained a number of interesting games. There were twelve games played; three games per round for four rounds. These games aren't annotated. We'll be redoing this page in the future to use add frames and analysis. Then a March tournament was a small quad. We weren't able to have an April tournament due to a scheduling conflict at the Park District playing site. Our May tournament was a small Quad, and contained a mix of very short and very long games. These games have all been analyzed. The June tournament was another small Quad. Some of these games have been annotated. This page uses the framed display, which you should find a preferable format for playing through our games. Our July tournament was a large quad with twenty four players in six sections. Our August Championship tournament had seventy two players. The large number of games requires a different organization than we normally use. This link takes you to a page where you can select the games to see for each player. We'll continue annotating selected games in the near future as we can. If there are any particular games you'd like to see annotated, drop us a note. Our September tournament was a Swiss with eighteen players. This tournament had a fairly high average rating strength. Some of the games are annotated, and more will be done in the future. The October Quad tournament was attended by thirty one players at our new playing site in the Elgin hotel. The games are listed, but are not yet annotated. We welcome contributions from our members to this effort. The November Swiss tournament saw twenty five participants compete over four rounds. The games are listed with a few annotations, and more will be done in the future. Members are welcomed and encouraged to analyze their games or any other games and submit the notes to us. The December tournament was our first quick event, at Game/20 time controls. Because scorekeeping was optional, we only have one game available from this tournament. The game is annotated by Andrew Wang. |

We have been forced to remove the automatic contact form because of an excess of spam, hundreds of emails per day. To prevent this, we are providing a link that will bring up an email form, with our address spoofed by an X in front of our real email address. Simply remove this X to create our real email address, then send it to us. We apologize for the extra effort required, but that's life in the internet age. Send email to McHenry Area Chess
