Nov 2004 Round 4

The November tournament was a four round Swiss with an attendance of twenty five players.  This was our second tournament at our new playing site, the Holiday Inn hotel in Elgin, and we were again in the eighth floor lounge.  One again, the hotel opened a nearby guest room as our rest room and skittles room.

Of the twenty five players, half were above 1400, so this became the ratings limit for our under 1400 prize.  We had two experts, four class B players, six class C, and one unrated. Hopefully we will draw more class A players in future tournaments to fill the gap below the top two boards.

As in our last tournament, First place went to top seeded Jim Marshall (2138) with a perfect 4 point score.  Second place was won by Mark Robledo Sr. (1702) with 3.5 points.  There was a four way tie for Third place shared by Mark Robledo Jr. (2011), Roger Allison (1700), Nathan McCoy (1509) and Vladim Djordjevic (1441) at 3 points.  The under 1400 prize went to Akhil Dutta who also finished with 3 points.  The biggest upset win prize went to John Gallagher (1157) for his first round victory over Jeffery Colwell (1582) at a ratings difference of 425 points.
