Our top seeded player was rated 2138, and the average rating was 1493. Half the players were rated above 1550. Only two players were rated below 1200, with nine players between 1200 and 1600. Of the thirty six games played, there were only four draws. Of the remaining thirty two games, fourteen were won by White and Black won eighteen. We awarded prizes for first and second overall, top under 1600 and top under 1200. James Marshall (2183) in his first tournament with McHenry Area Chess was the only player who achieved a perfect 4 points to become our first place winner. Bob Cairone (1809), our McHenry Area Chess Champion for 2004, shared the second place prize with Mark Engelen (1694) and Joseph Cygan (1657) shared the second place prize with three points each. At two points each, the under 1600 hundred prize was widely shared by Carl Bolm (1571), our 2004 City of McHenry Champion, Tim Ailes (1512), Charles Giertz (1500), Gary Levine (1436), and Gary Wang (1416). The under 1200 prize went to David Hullinger (426) whose only win against Bill Hayes (1127) also earned him the biggest upset win of the tournament, at a ratings difference of over seven hundred points.
