These games were played by Ray Satterlee (1971) at our January 2005 Swiss tournament. Ray took a half point bye in the first round, then went undefeated for his remaining three games, drawing against Robert Loncarevic (1968) in the final round, for a total of three points. Unfortunately, several score sheets from Ray's games were not turned in, so we have only one game to display here.

To play the games, just click on the moves in the score in the right hand side. Moves in black are the ones actually played in the game, and moves in color are variations and analysis. You can also click on these moves to see the position on the board. Or you can use the control panel under the board to step through each move manually, or the game can be played automatically. In autoplay mode, you have the option of stepping into the analysis variations or bypassing them completely.

Select games by scrolling in the right hand panel, or use the drop down list under the board. The interface is quite natural and easy to get used to. We hope you find it useful and enjoyable.

McHenry Area Chess January Swiss (2) 2005

1. e4 e5 2. Bc4 Nf6 3. d4 Nc6 4. dxe5 Nxe5 5. Bb3 Be7 6. f4 Neg4? Drops a piece. 7. e5 Bc5 8. exf6 Nf2 9. fxg7 9. Qe2+ is better, but White's may have presumed that this will be an easy game and that his advantage is already overwhelming. 9... Rg8 10. Bxf7+? Unnecessary and incorrect. While White can capture the Black bishop, his rook is also en pris. After this move, with proper play by Black, the game is actually even. 10... Ke7? 11. Qh5 11. Qd5 is even better. From here on out, White plays aggressively and keeps increasing his advantage. 11... Rxg7 12. Qxc5+ d6 Black should have just played 12... Kxf7 13. Qxf2 Kxf7 14. Nf3 Qe7+ 15. Be3 b6 16. O-O Ke8 17. Nc3 Bb7 18. Rfe1 Kd7 19. Bd4 Hits the rook and discovers an attack against the queen. Black can only deal with one of the threats. 19... Rg4 20. Rxe7+ Kxe7 21. Re1+ 1-0
