August Tournament Announcement

The next M.A.C. tournament will be held on August 21, at the Crystal Lake Park District Building. This is our annual Championship tournament. It will be a four round Swiss at Game/60 time controls (or, preferably, Game/55 with a 5 second delay). Registration is from 8:30 to 9:15, and the first round is at 9:30. The entry fee is $10. Trophy prizes will be awarded at this tournament. We have fifteen trophies to

hand out. They are for Tournament Champion, second and third place overall. We will also crown a Junior Champion, for players nineteen and under, and a second place junior. We will give out three scholastic champions based on school grade, divided as kindergarten through second grades, third through fifth grades, and sixth through eighth grades. In addition, we will award area championships based on residency, for the cities (or near neighbors) of Algonquin, Cary, Crystal Lake, Lake in the Hills, McHenry, and Woodstock. In addition, for our players who travel to our tournaments from a distance, we are also awarding a Traveler trophy.

Since this tournament is expected to be very well attended, registration on site will be complicated and have long lines. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. You may pre-register by contacting Bob, Andrew or Jeff. We’ll need your name, USCF ID number, and the ten dollar entry fee. Please see the flyer on the last page of this newsletter for more details.

Donations Received

The Cary Kings have recently made a generous, grandmaster level donation to our organization. This goes a long way towards meeting our immediate outstanding debt and makes our fledgling corporation more secure. In addition,
