Andrew Wang gave us a generous donation at the Master level. And finally, Home State Bank has given the group a free checking account. They will also be considering our request for a contribution at their next charity review meeting. We’ll post the result of this in next month’s newsletter.

July Quad Best Attended Yet

The Quad tournament held this July 17th was attended by 24 players, out highest attendance yet. Many players had been with us before, but there were many new players, thanks our TLA in the USCF’s Chess Life. There were six quads, with average ratings ranging from 1752 to 1058. The tournament included four unrated players new to tournament chess, who were paired in the lower quads. There were a lot of excellent games, and they should all be available with annotations on our web site soon.

Scholarship Nominations

Next month, we will begin accepting nominations for our scholarship program. Although the awarding of a scholarship is dependent on there being sufficient funds in the corporation treasury on December 31, things look encouraging. The scholarship is open to anyone in our community who best represents the goals of our organization. Though not required, preference is given to individuals who participate in our events. There is no age limitation to the award. Please send your nominations, including the reasons why you believe the individual is most deserving of this award, to McHenry Area Chess, either by email by regular post. Nominations for this year’s award must be received by November 30, 2004. Please see the Scholarships page on our website for more information.
